In this epilogue discussion, Rabbi Fohrman is joined by Adina Blaustein, Aleph Beta’s Content Production Manager, to discuss a pressing question: If you read Sefer Melachim, the text tells us that Solomon will lose his empire and the kingdom will split. And the reason given isn’t lack of service. It’s because Solomon’s foreign wives turn his heart astray and so God promises to tear the kingdom away from him. Why develop a whole course, going deep into textual connections – fascinating as they may be – to resolve a question that we have a simple answer to? Rabbi Fohrman’s answer adds a whole new dimension to the story of Solomon and the symbolism of the nearly split baby.
